Hailing from the city of Sikandrabad, AYVEEZ kicked off his sonic debut with an EP titled “Tiny नज़्मस्” which translates to “Tiny Poems” in Hindi. Released in June of 2024, this EP contains 3 songs. With a runtime of less than 4 minutes, AYVEEZ has aimed to show people what he can do, by giving them a little sneak peek into his music. He’s tried to incorporate a wide variety of styles and subject matter into this EP.
The first song “Fill in the Blanks” begins with some old school keys and a vocal sample fading into the mix. The chord progression is brilliant (courtesy Heaven) as it sets the melancholic, emotional and dark tone of the track before the vocal and percussive elements take centre stage. AYVEEZ comes in with the lofi drum hits, talking about how the person he lost doesn’t know about the poems and songs he keeps writing for her, in her memory. He seeks closure while also delving into some introspection, asking himself if what he did was so wrong that she had to leave him, yearning for her love. The timbre of his voice and his style of writing is very reminiscent of hip hop superstar Talha Anjum. He closes out the song with the hook which contains the title of the song, asking the listener to fill in the blanks. Abhash Rai has done a great job with the visualizers, adding an additional, visual layer to the tracks.
We go into the next track titled “IHTF” ft. Dennis (I Hate This Feeling), which spans the length of just under a minute. Some fast arpeggiated keys set the scene over which big, punchy drums come in. This instrumental (courtesy Pacific) sounds like something straight out of the 80s synthwave era. AYVEEZ talks about coping with the fact that the person he loved has left him. Running away from the fact that she’s gone, lying to himself to feel better. Dennis belts a powerful chorus, singing about how he’s trapped inside his mind, how he’s trying to get out of his own head but he can’t.
The final track from this EP “The Love WNH” starts off with a soul sample. This instrumental is a reproduced version of “Remember” from JustDan Beats (courtesy Vneeet). The chops are very reminiscent of the style of early 2000s Kanye, with pitched up vocals being repeatedly played. The trap drums and 808s flow with it seamlessly, over which AYVEEZ raps about not being able to see the flaws and red flags in the girl he loved when they were together. He closes out this EP with another bit of introspection, talking about how he should’ve seen this coming
In this EP which runs for about the length of a complete song, AYVEEZ has managed to project his emotions, tell a story, all while switching up the sounds constantly, something a lot of artists fail to do with even an LP. If this is what he can do with his small poems, there’s no telling what he could with bigger ones.
