The Yellow Diary’s ‘In Case We Forget’: An Indie-Pop/Rock Time Capsule of Poetic Nostalgia and Layered Sound

After years of carving their own space in the indie landscape – The Yellow Diary finally steps into a new chapter with their debut – ‘In Case We Forget’.

The album isn’t just a set of songs for the band but more of a time capsule. It’s no longer just a collection of feelings but more like a journal they’ve been writing together over the years.

The Yellow Diary has been known for poetic songwriting and layered sound but ‘In Case We Forget’ feels like their most complete expression yet. It’s not just a collection of songs. This is who they are in 2025. It is a sonic reminder of the journey they’ve taken together and the memories they never want to lose sight of.

Sheher is a song on city life that is joyous in sound but sad in spirit. The rapid fastness of city life wreaks havoc over each of its inhabitants. There is this feeling of being homeless amidst the trappings of daily life.

The song will provide quiet comfort to any listener on a metro commute back to home from work at the end of the day.

Yours Always, Dad is an ode set to piano. The song circles back to the first song where there is this feeling of being homeless. This song promises that home is still somewhere out there waiting.

Yun Hi Kahin is a tribute to all those friendships that forever stayed in our hearts even when life took us to different places. The song holds the warmth and bittersweet ache of long-lost friends, the souls with whom you’ve crafted your most precious memories, those you quietly wish to find again as life’s journey unfolds. It is the first single off the album and a description from the band states that – it is for the ones we wish we hadn’t lost along the way.

Chasing is about the never-ending loop of our ambitions… That urgency to convert dreams into truths… The fears, insecurities and anxieties that come along in the quest for the attainment of our dreams.

Ultimately destiny prevails and the song ends in a hopeful tone. There is both sweet and bitter on this song. There is quiet poetry in these lines. There is as much darkness as there is light in chasing…

Dastoor is set onto synth loops over which a quiet love story builds. It feels like a cathartic diary entry reminiscing the memory of a lover.

Tere Siva Re features Lisa Mishra’s stunning voice over which The Yellow Diary stich a banger. There is much more electronica and dance vibes here. Lisa’s voice is the hook of this song and she totally steals the spotlight.

Dil Challeya Ve sounds like a Bollywood banger from the early 2010s. There is a rap verse over here that blends perfectly over rest of the song.

Saaye features the haunting vocals of Shilpa Rao – the voice behind hits such as Yaariyaan and Khuda Jaane – her vocals have that haunting quality that is absolutely fit for an album climax! There is also a bonus track…

‘In Case We Forget’ is a record that feels like a quiet conversation between old friends; tender, nostalgic and full of honesty.

“We spent this year writing with real intention, and it felt like our brotherhood, our growth, and our vision all aligned in a way they never had before. The tracks may each have their own world, but they all carry the same heart and soul.” The Yellow Diary says…
