Songweavers 2025 Puts Original Indian Music in the Spotlight

On the evening of 2nd August, The Piano Man in Delhi came alive with the 4th edition of Songweavers. From 8 cities across the country, 23 singer-songwriters stepped onto the stage with one thing in common: a love for original music.

Winner – Anoushka Mahajan

Anoushka Mahajan captivated the audience with her original track Supersede, co-written and composed with her younger sister. The song offered a heartfelt expression that reflected both sincerity and creative depth.

Anoushka’s love for Western pop began in the fourth grade with Cheap Thrills by Sia and has since grown into a repertoire influenced by Demi Lovato, Porcupine Tree, Raye, and more. Raised in a music-loving family, she has been writing songs since she was 11, drawing from real-life emotions and experiences.

Her journey has not been without hurdles. Once shy and battling stage fright, she used to sing behind closed doors, quite literally in her mother’s wardrobe. Over time, her love for performing outweighed her fears, pushing her to take every stage she could. From theatre workshops at the National School of Drama to performances at the Delhi Society of Music and Rockathon 2025, she has steadily built her artistry.

With Songweavers now part of her journey, Anoushka is already working on releasing her music in the coming days.

First Runner-Up – Muskan Singhal

For Muskan Singhal, music is an ocean, vast and mysterious, and she has chosen to dive into it completely. Growing up in a family rooted in business, she and her sister were the only ones with artistic inclinations.

Her serious pursuit of music began in 2020 when she joined the Global Music Institute’s Artist Diploma program. There, she immersed herself fully, honing her skills, starting a band called Papaaya, and performing across Delhi with a sound that blends R&B, neo-soul, and indie folk.

Her performance of Old Friends in Songweavers offered a glimpse into her evolving artistry and the strong audience and jury response has inspired her to release it later this year as her debut single.

Second Runner-Up – Anchal Sethi

Anchal Sethi bridges worlds with her Indian classical roots and Western contemporary flair. Her journey began at nine with Indian classical training, which later evolved into an enduring love for vocal harmonies and ensemble singing.

As the music instructor for Euphonie, the Western Music Society and A Cappella group at her alma mater Janki Devi Memorial College, she has been shaping harmonies that carry messages of courage, protest, and social awareness.

Her original Spare Change, performed in Songweavers gave a glimpse of her skill for weaving meaning into melody. She is currently working on her debut EP, which will further showcase her evolving style.

This year’s top three took home cash prizes of ₹10,000 for the winner, ₹5,000 for the first runner-up, and ₹3,000 for the second runner-up  along with opportunities from the partners that will help their music reach even further.

More than the prizes, Songweavers is about community. It is about putting original Indian music in the spotlight. It is about giving artists the space to tell their stories in their own words and melodies.

From its 1st edition to the 4th one, Songweavers has become a space where emerging voices find recognition and inspiration. If the talent on stage this year is any indication, the future of Indian singer-songwriters is not just bright, it is already unfolding before us.
