Singles Roundup #23: Diversify your playlist with these latest tracks

2020 has been brutal to everyone in the music industry. One thing which kept us all going these past few months, or in fact through this entire year has been music. Despite the fact that the music industry was probably one of the first to shut down, and still not be able to reopen completely, Indian musicians have taken this time to let their creative juices flowing. Every day we see a plethora of new songs being released and we at the Indian Music Diaries are creating our monthly compilation of the latest releases in the music scene.

1. Kaala Jaadu by Sez on the Beat x DAKAIT x Aniket Raturi

Producer Sajeel Kapoor who goes by the alias Sez on the Beat collaborated with hip-hop artists DAKAIT and Aniket Raturi for their first single together Kaala Jaadu. The track has a raw hip-hop energy, a sound which is a proper representation of the scene. Set in the hills of Dehradun, this song is about taking your art to new heights and staying true to your roots.

2. La Hermosa Tristeza by Second Sight

Mumbai-based singer-songwriter duo Second Sight released their latest single La Hermosa Tristeza which will be part of their upcoming album Coral. Influenced by the Mexican form of Bolero, this Spanish song gives the perfect dance vibes with Anusha Ramasubramoney’s vocals and a catchy hook along with the bridge in English by Pushkar Srivatsal. The song talks about losing and then searching for yourself, running from the demons of your past and finding beauty in sadness.

3. Ashes by Takar Nabam

Arunachal-based singer-songwriter and composer Takar Nabam released his second single Ashes. This song is supposed to be part of his upcoming EP Red & Yellow. With slick guitar licks, Nabam’s almost acoustic vocals, along with a monologue kind of bridge gives this song a chill vibe.

4. Those American Eyes by Flyght Club  

Pune/Los Angeles based band Flyght Club released their latest single Those American Eyes. A clean guitar solo is followed by a harmonious sitar solo along with a few verses in a distorted voice give this song a perfect rollercoaster experience, as if taking the listener through a journey.

5. Loop by Panther

Hip-hop artist and rapper Panther released his latest single Loop. Groovy beats and a soulful melody makes it a catchy song overall. The song is about the rapper talking about is past and sharing his experiences in a smooth manner.

6. Naya Naya Sa Ishq by Gaurav Sarda

Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Gaurav Sarda released his latest single Naya Naya Sa Ishq. This Hindi song is a fusion of pop and contemporary. The heartfelt lyrics talk about an honest, organic and fresh take on falling in love.

7. Main Toh Chala by Vismay Patel

Singer-songwriter and music producer Vismay Patel released his latest single Main Toh Chala. Just like all his songs about travel and life, this one too revolves around a similar theme. The song talks about how one can enjoy their life in limited resources and how life is in your control and one shouldn’t worry about being judged. With simple lyrics, breezy vocals and an inspiring video make this song relatable to everyone.

8. Painting Time by The Tramlines Project

Post-rock band The Tramlines Project released their second single Painting Time. This track appears to be an extension of their debut single Deep Trip. With melodic solos, soulful extravagant soundscapes, synth riffs and drums make this song almost like a progressive ambient track with modern post-rock vibes. The song tries to bring out emotions related to the brutality as well as the generosity of time, and how we can add different colours to our tryst with time.

9. Mann by Blu Attic

Delhi-based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Aniket Jain who goes by the moniker Blu Attic released his latest single Mann featuring Indian Classical vocalist Aaromal Rajendrababu. This lo-fi house track along with Hindustani classical vocals gives a unique twist to the song. This track talks about one’s struggle with problems that mainly exist in their minds when they’re isolated.

10. Ghissey Jootey by Qoini

Delhi-based songwriter and rapper Aditya Guglani who goes by the alias Qoini, a name derived from the Hindi phrase “koi nai” released his latest single Ghissey Jootey. Through his melodic hip-hop track, Guglani captures the raw emotions of his tragic loss of losing three of his family members to COVID-19, his isolation, and also the suffering he has faced as an artist in this pandemic.

11. Kaagaz Ki Naav by Last Minute India

Mumbai-based Hindi alternative rock band Last Minute India released their latest single Kaagaz Ki Naav. With rock elements and relatable lyrics, this song is the perfect inspirational and relatable song for the listener. It talks about hope such as relationships, things working out even when we know they won’t. This song is about holding onto this hope which the band refers to as Kagaz Ki Naav when we supress our grievances, terming it as being understanding.

12. Unity by Srini

Pune-based instrumental musician Srinibas Misra who goes by the moniker Srini released his debut solo Unity. This progressive instrumental metal track is like a rollercoaster. With breezy guitars and soothing drums, to ambient rock, followed by distorted guitars and thumping drums, and back to a softer guitar composition, this track is definitely set to keep the listener hooked!

13. Sunshade by Anubhav Silas

Delhi-based djent instrumental artist Anubhav Silas released his second instrumental track Sunshade. His music is an amalgamation of genres like djent, ambidjent, ambient clean music and progressive rock. This track has sick distorted guitar solos and thumping drums, making it a very energetic piece.

14. Buried to Dust by Arrows

Mumbai-based musician David Britto’s collaborative music project Arrows released its second single Buried to Dust with vocalist Siddhart Basrur. This rock song was actually a shelved project for Britto which revolves around the thought of life after death. Supporting and capturing the essence of the the song is a music video which is as emotive as can get through dance.

15. Tum Khush Ho Na? by Tushar Raj

Kolkata-based singer-songwriter and producer Tushar Raj released Tum Khush Ho Na?  which is his fifth single. The song features luscious soundscapes, pleasant guitar strumming and dreamy vocals. The song talks about the feeling of being lost in today’s world even when we are surrounded by so many people. It is also a personal take of Raj about his struggle with sleeplessness and how we all feel that we are not good enough.
