Chhavi Sodhani’s ‘X-Axis’: A Soulful, Groovy Indie Pop Triumph

Chhavi Sodhani, a vocal virtuoso since age 5, has honed her craft over the years, developing a unique style that’s both soulful and experimental. Her journey from child prodigy to independent artist has been marked by perseverance and growth. Her debut EP “X-Axis” is a testament to her resilience and multifaceted talents, with Sodhani writing, composing, producing, and performing all three tracks.

This child prodigy turned seasoned songstress blends introspective lyrics with experimental soundscapes, creating a sonic tapestry that’s both intimate and expansive. Each song on “X-Axis” serves as a poetic dialogue, inviting listeners into Sodhani’s world of coming-of-age narratives and soul-baring confessions. With her unique blend of carefully crafted melodies and raw emotional honesty, Sodhani is poised to carve out her own niche in the music industry.

The EP opens with “Maaf” (Hindi for “forgiveness”), a track that speaks to those who are often too hard on themselves. With its foundation of retro synths, thumping 808 bass, and tight groove, the song pulsates with an indie pop energy. Lyrically, it reminds us that mistakes are inevitable as we navigate life, drawing parallels to how we learned to walk as children – through repeated falls. The composition beautifully balances softness and strength, urging listeners to have fairer self-expectations and embrace life’s journey. “Maaf” encourages us to loosen up and enjoy the grand celebration of life. Do check out the accompanying YouTube video, directed by Shiven Bakhtiani which amplifies the song’s core message.

“Nagma,” the EP’s second track, is a soulful ode to lost love and artistic inspiration. The song opens with an experimental, urgent sound, contrasting with Chhavi’s soft, melodious vocals. The track showcases masterful mixing and mastering, blending multiple sounds including cello-like vocals, rhythmic beats, and synths. Chhavi’s high voice perfectly complements the track. It’s as if her songs are a genre in itself. “Nagma” is simultaneously groovy and lyrically profound, with a captivating push-and-pull vibe that’s easy on the ears. Unlike typical breakup songs, it offers a mature perspective, acknowledging how past relationships shape us and contribute to our growth. And so the track serves as a heartfelt confession from a songwriter, crediting an ex-lover for inspiring her love songs.

“Alvida,” the EP’s finale, personifies Pain (Dard) as a long-standing companion. This wavy, immersive track showcases Chhavi’s vocal prowess and masterful composition. The lyrics will resonate with anyone who’s had to bid farewell to something painful. The song’s authentic journey, crafted through various musical elements, lingers long after listening.

When pain becomes a constant, it feels like an extension of ourselves. “Alvida” bravely acknowledges this allegiance while crying for liberation and moving on. It’s more than lyrics; it’s a deep emotional release, bidding farewell to our battles, scars, and persistent feelings.

Chhavi’s talent shines throughout this EP, deserving more recognition for the love she’s poured into it. “X-Axis” firmly places this artist on the radar, promising many great songs to come.
