G5A’s Live at the Warehouse Brings Together Some of the Country’s Best Artists!

G5A is a community for experimental and independent arts practice. The G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture was envisioned and founded by Anuradha Parikh, an architect and filmmaker based in Mumbai.

Her wide-ranging independent and collaborative projects and her commitment towards creating deeper socio-cultural dialogues have organically led to the formation of G5A, a multi-functional community space and cultural center in Mumbai with a programming that spans across cinema, music, theatre, performance art, literature and more.

The G5A warehouse is strategically located within the old mill area of Mumbai. The textile mills fostered a unique culture that shaped Mumbai during the 19th and early 20th century. Mill workers patronized literary traditions, theater, folk and popular arts. Since the decline of these mills, the cultural landscape has also been impacted. G5A is an ode to that spirit!

Live at the Warehouse aims to bring together independent artists to share their stories. It is a beautifully curated series the aim of which is for the audience to discover new genres, new artists, new experiences like never before in a space that is malleable and yielding.

TV Dinner Live at the Warehouse #01

TV Dinner

TV Dinner is Nischay Parekh’s new project after the disbandment of Parekh & Singh. TV Dinner marks an interesting step in Parekh’s musical journey. There is an interesting mix of indie, folk, pop, dreampop and RnB elements in the music.

His songwriting remains sincere while exploring fresh sonic territories. The music sound like an eclectic blend of the repertoire of artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Lord Huron and MGMT.

HULO

Hulo is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Calcutta whose music carries the warmth of a tight hug layered over the soundscapes of modern pop. His songs are vulnerable tear jerkers with a strong focus on storytelling.

His music has the sensitivity to win over both audiences and critics alike and future looks promising for this young star.

Skrat, Fox in the Garden and Signal W Live at the Warehouse #02

Skrat

Skrat is a formidable force in indie rock scene. Their music is inspired by acts such as Queens of Stone Age and Foo Fighters but mixed with something original that makes them sound quite unlike any of the rest. The sound fuses everything from garage and grunge to punk and metal.

Fox In the Garden

Fox In the Garden is an indie-rock act from Mumbai that draws from the likes of The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Mac Demarco. Their sound is nostalgic, groovy, dreamy and full of graceful nonchalance with lyrics about the mundane happenstances of everyday life. They are an absolute treat to listen to.

Signal W

Signal W was formed in Bangalore, 2017. The music feels like a blurry party snapshot the subject of which remains unidentifiable. They are a fusion of so many genres that to tag them in one or two would be a disgrace. Tame Impala electronica meets indie psychedelica. Their songs sound a lot like muffled hits heard in the bathroom of some club.

Curtain Blue and RANJ X CLIFR Live at the Warehouse #03

Curtain Blue

Curtain Blue is the moniker of singer-producer Abhishek Bhatia who is known for blending haunting vocals melodies over downtempo and bass sensibilities while also keeping Indian textures in the mix. His sound is an interesting fusion of genres.

RANJ X CLIFR

RANJ X CLIFR are India’s most promising duo that create multi-genre music with house, pop, hip-hop and jazz influence. They are signed to Azadi Records and have collaborated with giants such as Seedhe Maut and Dhanji.
